This week has been busy as I prepare for my new piggy rescue, Hammy. If you know me, you know two things: I love pigs, and I’ve been wanting to rescue one for quite some time. I also decided to let go of all the goat babies this season. I was originally going to keep the girl and a buck, but after some soul‑searching I’ve decided to step away from the breeding program. As much as I love the milk, financially it’s been a lot.

I’ll be keeping the OG herd to live out their days, minus the younger buck — he deserves a home where he can pass on his fabulous genetics. I just won’t be adding or breeding more. It’s a bit of a bummer, but the whole experience has been a wonderful teacher. And honestly… I just love the piggies the most. They’re unbelievably smart.

So, back to Hami. My hope is that he and Cheyenne (my indoor potbelly) will get along. They’re around the same size and age, and Hami has been an indoor pig, so he’s well‑versed in indoor etiquette. The busyness this week has come from fortifying the backyard — Cheyenne’s yard — which had fallen into disrepair because she’s allowed to roam and I’ve never worried about her escaping. I’m not sure what antics Hami will bring, but I definitely don’t want him slipping out during the transition phase. Pigs are highly intelligent, and he’ll most likely be depressed for a bit. A big move on top of losing one of his owners is a lot emotionally. That’s what I’ve been up to, and I’ll keep you posted on how it all goes.

🌙 Practicing Presence

In the program I’ve been going through, one of the practices is simply waking up to the moment. At first it felt obvious — but aren’t the most powerful things often the simplest?

The practice is to set an alarm each hour you’re awake. When it goes off, you pause and notice your thoughts, your feelings, your sensations, and your environment. No judging, no changing — just noticing. I’ve found this tiny practice to have a profound effect on my inner world. I feel happier, calmer, and excited about life again.

Another practice I’ve added is thinking about everything I’m grateful for before bed and when I wake up (bonus points if I remember during the day). What we ruminate on creates more of itself. Who we spend time with reflects who we are. If I want more gratitude, love, and acceptance in my life, I need to keep those qualities at the forefront of my mind.

It’s so easy to forget — forget the teachings that bring peace, forget that I can surrender, forget how blessed I am. The hourly alarm helps me see my state of being and pivot if needed.

To try this practice:   • Set an alarm every hour you’re awake • Notice thoughts, feelings, sensations, and environment • Return to your tasks

It only takes a moment, and so far the results have been beautiful.
